Originally from Buffalo, New York and currently residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, artist Lauren Braun utilizes the idea of the Rust Belt City as a starting point to create the world seen in her work.  Alphabet City (pictured here), along with the two other pieces of artwork the Pennsylvania Convention Center acquired, are from a continuing series called “Rust Belt Collages.”

Alphabet City was inspired by the vibrancy of the urban cityscape and depicts a place both somewhere and nowhere – imagined and taken from observation.
